    My Morning Matcha Green Tea Latte

    The matcha green tea latte is a delicate drink. Personally,my body and mind need a relaxing space in the afternoon, in order to to regroup and prepare to focus on the work ahead. Matcha provides a soothing, but subtle, sense of calm. Unlike coffee, which peaks and crashes and is likely to influence your sleep quality if consumed in the afternoon. The subtle caffeinecontent of
    the matcha latte will give you a calmer state of awareness without the crash.
    When I first tasted matcha, I have to admit that I wasn’t really into the taste. A friend of mine introduced me to the world of these green lattes, and found that in the right combination matcha powder is actually really interesting. If you haven’t tried matcha before, having a matcha green tea latte is a great start, especially the coconut milk one, which is my favorite. The mild sweet taste and creaminess of coconut perfectly balance the rich flavor of matcha powder, creating a delicious combination. The matcha coconut latte ads a nice variety to my normal routine.

    I see the matcha green tea coconut latte making process as a form of meditation, just as this green powder is used for the cha-do, the tea ceremony. I try to stay aware to every step I’m making for creating the latte, and this anchors me in the present and makes the transition to the calm state of mind that matcha latte gives.

    The milk in a green tea latte packs a healthy dose of calcium, vitamin D and protein. Plus, the green tea itself offers a multitude of health benefits. Tea leaves are loaded with polyphenols that work as antioxidants, possibly lowering the risk of some diseases. Consuming 5 to 6 cups of green tea daily has been found to provide cardiovascular and metabolic benefits, according to a 2007 study in the “Journal of the American College of Nutrition.” Animal studies suggest tea polyphenols may inhibit skin, lung and other cancers, notes a Rutgers University report. Research shows green tea may even help you lose weight.

     

     

     

    While chlorophyll nourishes our body cells with oxygen and boosts their natural detoxification process and antioxidants reduce the free radicals damage and slow aging, it’s the amino-acid L-theanine that have the calming effect on our mind and bodies. It also stimulates the serotonin and dopamine production, the neurotransmitters of our most desired conditions – happiness and wellbeing.

    Add the matcha powder into a medium bowl and slowly add the hot water, whisking with a spoon (bamboo whisk if available) until all the water is incoporated.

    Divide the ice cubes and coconut milk into the serving jars or mugs.

    Pour evenly the matcha brew into the jars, add the maple syrup, mix to combine and serve.
